Camden Council: Facilitating Youth Democracy

Camden is a Central London Borough. They have a strong agenda for youth engagement and a Youth Council led entirely by young people. Local Democracy week is a Government initiative aimed at involving more people in local democracy.

Project brief: Facilitate an exciting and vibrant discussion event involving Young People from across the borough. Facilitate debate on the Youth Council's election and participation strategy.

What we did:

• Researched the local youth engagement landscape
• Drew up proposals in close liaison with youth representatives
• Chaired a debate in the Council chamber for 60 young people, Youth Councillors and Councillors
• Supported Youth Councillors in giving a presentation at the Local Democracy event
• Facilitated round table discussions on youth engagement with Youth Councillors, Councillors and Officers
• Delivered consultancy on the Youth Council's development, elections and participation strategies
